Things I Did Today
Joined the library
Made fake blood
Had a big huge super potentially life-changing meeting*
Bought some pork belly
Walked the dog
Joined the gym
Totally average day, basically.
*If you know what I’m talking about, you know enough.

"Imagine if the Tea Party was Black", by Tim Wise →
hereharehere:caterpillarcowboy:shorterexcerpts:strawberrytwin:notentirely:
“Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution,...

“Did you notice, however, where part of the cause lies? We have always had illegal aliens slipping across the boarder (I am thinking, of course, of Mexico) but the surge of illegal immigrants crossing the Mexico/U.S. boarder is very much associated with the passage of NAFTA. Correlation, of course, does not prove causation but the correlation is this: NAFTA passes, Mexico...

Well, There Go Our Plans for Today
Begley’s rundown of why buying green won’t save the planet:
All environmental progress has come through national- and international-level regulation—to be blunt, by forcing people and industry to stop doing environmentally bad things and start doing environmentally good things, not by relying on individuals’ green good will or even the power of the marketplace.

Everyone’s gushing about this article/op-ed in Esquire, and how great it is. So I read it. And I’m pretty pissed off.
I rarely think hard about feminism, because I’ve always sort of trumpeted the individual over the collective, gender aside. I was too young to be a riot grrrl and too punk/jaded to get into girl power. I think it should go without saying that everyone - black,...

What?
While the Court conceded that Congress had passed the law to try to stop interstate trafficking in so-called “crush videos,” showing the actual killing of cats, dogs and other small animals by stomping or other intensely cruel methods, it said the resulting law itself reached far more than that kind of portrayal. Limiting the law’s reach to those depictions, the...

ladimcbeth asked: Seeing your post on making your own PB, I was wondering, do you make your own mayonnaise? I've been looking into it ever since I discovered that pretty much ALL mayos are made with soybean oil, even the ones with olive or canola oil. This is a problem because I'm allergic to soy, so currently eating mayo make me ill.

I need to borrow a pair of overalls tomorrow.
I am completely serious. I need them for a shoot.
I don’t care what size. I’m a 4 but I can squeeze into a 2 or wear anything larger. Guys’ overalls are OK, too.
They’ll be returned in perfect, clean condition.

We did this about three years ago in favor of over-the-air HD recorded to our TiVo along with a few iTunes purchases/rentals. It’s been a huge money saver and we really haven’t missed cable much.
