Sounds like a good deal for Tumblr! I bet people will pay for this, no problem.

Well, I think that’s the problem: that people will pay for it. And some will do it just to fuck around and be silly; others will do it because they think it’ll actually benefit them in some way. And to me, that’s really cynical on Tumblr’s part. The stickers they used to have were cute and silly and fun and made no pretense of being anything else. But these Highlights are being promoted as a way to gain exposure, which is an empty promise because they only show up on the Dashboard, which means only to people who already follow you.

This is the stupidest thing. Here’s $1 to let me shout obnoxiously and ineffectively at people! No one likes to be shouted at. That’s the obnoxious part. And it’s not like these tags do anything other than clutter the margins of the Dashboard.

But what’s really so, so dumb about these - so dumb it’s funny in a sad, pathetic way - is that they only work on the Dashboard. They don’t work on the actual blogs. So you’re paying $1 for someone to, what, give your post an extra 1 second glance? Maybe click ‘like’ or ‘reblog’? But only on the Dashboard. Not on your URL, not in an RSS feed. Only on Tumblr, for other Tumblr users. And there’s no correlating monetary gain for your $1 when someone clicks “like” on your post on their Dashboard. So basically, you’re giving Tumblr $1 to help promote Tumblr. Not you. Tumblr.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy classic Super Bowl junk food like Buffalo Wings - which are actually even tastier steamed and roasted than fried. I am such a trooper, you guys. The day we shot this video, it was 18ºF out in the sun. Humphrey got to wear a sweater, but all I had was jogging pants and a fake thermal shirt. Even a Nerf football is hard to throw when your fingers don’t want to bend.

But then I got to go back inside and make the most goddamn amazing chicken wings I’ve ever had. Except for when I made them again, for last year’s Super Bowl, when they were at least as equally as amazing as the first time. Let me put it this way: we bought 10 pounds of wings for that Super Bowl party. We had maybe 35 people come through our house. They all brought food and/or booze to share. Some of the guests were professional chefs. We were out of wings before the halftime show started.

So you should probably make these wings this weekend, is what I’m saying.

Susan G. Komen Foundation Also Stops Funding Embryonic Stem Cell Research:

In addition to pulling funds from Planned Parenthood for The Susan G. Komen Foundation also decided to stop funding embryonic stem cell research centers making it fully transparent the organization has evolved from non-political non-profit to a partisan advocacy organization.

That means the loss of $3.75 million to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, $4.5 million to the University of Kansas Medical Center, $1 million to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, $1 million to the Society for Women’s Health Research, and $600,000 to Yale University. That’s a loss of nearly $12 million dollars in research money to eradicate breast cancer this year alone.
