Canon just announced the 550D which seems to contain the same sensor as the Canon EOS 7D and the same filming options (24, 25, and 30 frames per second for 1080p. 50 or 60 frames per second for 720p). It loses a processor (down from 2) and reduced continuous shooting from the 7D but will come at a lower price point.
I think it’s great if you wanted the video options of the 7D but weren’t terribly comfortable with the initial price.
Want.
Pass. The 5D and 7D are much better. You do not want to compromise your processor.
Need something to play 1080p content at full rez and something half decent to color correct on. My 19 inch, non-widescreen, 5 year old duder is getting washed out.
Is this 23 inch “black friday” computer monitor a deal?

I can’t find the model online to see reviews of it…but 23 inch full HD for 169.99 seems nice and I’ve been meaning to upgrade my ol non widescreen, non HD 5 year old 19 incher…
I answered Bobby’s question on his Tumblr, but I wanted to elaborate.
For like $175, we got a 23” full HD Acer monitor from Best Buy about 3 months ago. 1280x1080, 40,000:1 contrast. I’ve never tried it out as a TV monitor; we use it solely as a monitor for Final Cut Pro. I don’t know how it stacks up compared to our TV monitor (42” Aquos) but all our HD footage (Canon 5D MkII) looks great on the Acer.
A test video I shot with the Canon 5D Mark II — sped up by 2500% and then conformed the framerate from 30fps to 24fps using QT Sync. Conforming is not like reverse telecine, it simply makes 30fps video play at 24fps. Click through to YouTube to see it in HD.
We shoot my show on this camera and I love how great every shot looks.
